Mucho Mojo
by Joe R. Lansdale
About the Book:
Multi-award winning author, Joe R. Lansdale, is undoubtedly one of the most
exciting and original writers working today. Combining the elements of suspense
and mystery with the Southern Gothic, he has produced a masterpiece of dark
intrigue.
When Hap Collins, a sixties drop-out, a seventies fool, and an eighties wash-out, is called on by his best friend, war hero Leonard Pine, to help him get through the funeral of his favorite uncle, Hap and Leonard are led into a series of events initiated by the discovery of a child's pitiful skeleton wrapped in pornographic magazines and hidden in a trunk. This one event opens dark doors to the past, and challenges the very core of their belief systems.
As one horror leads to the next, and the evidence points to Leonard's now dead uncle as the murderer, Leonard engages his friend Hap to help him prove his uncle's innocence. Soon, Hap and Leonard realize that they are on the trail of an insidious murderer, and that their own lives hang in the balance.
What results is a novel of deep friendship, race relations, dark and horrid passions, and a rousing, nerve-wracking climax.
Wild and unpredictable, laced with black humor, with a marvelous cast of characters, Mucho Mojo is a thoroughly absorbing achievement by a major talent on the swift track to stardom.
With more than twenty books to his credit, Lansdale has been called "an immense talent" by Booklist; "a born storyteller" by Robert Bloch; and The New York Times Book Review declares he has "a folklorist’s eye for telling detail and a front-porch raconteur's sense of pace."
Lansdale is a student of the martial arts for more than thirty years. He’s a two-time inductee into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame, one such honor bestowed upon him for his founding of Shen Chuan, Martial Science.
He holds belts in Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, Combat Hapkido, American Combat Kempo, and Aikido, amongst others; in fact, his standard day is six hours at the typewriter, three hours at Lansdale’s Self Defense Systems, the martial-arts studio which he owns and at which he teaches.
Lansdale has won five Bram Stoker horror awards, a British Fantasy Award, the American Mystery Award, the Horror Critics Award, the "Shot in the Dark" International Crime Writer’s award, the Booklist Editor’s Award, the Critic’s Choice Award, and a New York Times Notable Book award.
Lansdale lives in Nacogdoches, Texas, with his wife, Karen, writer and editor.
